Nature's Mysteries with Ranger Jeff: Salmon Bank

Since its creation by the forces of glaciation and erosion, from Orca hunting ground to indigenous fishery, to a commercial bonanza then bust, this is the story of San Juan Island’s Salmon Bank. Come to hear how the bank was formed and why it has been and continues to be central to life here on San Juan Island.

Ranger Jeff is in his 7th year with the National Park Service, having left retirement to pursue his lifelong goal of being a National Park Ranger. He works as an Interpretive Ranger at both American Camp and English Camp, having served here for the last six years. Prior to coming to San Juan, Jeff served in Yosemite NP, Great Smoky Mountains NP, and Yellowstone NP. Jeff’s passion is the outdoors, and in particular our national parks where he spends much of his free time. He has three children who live in the East, and his partner Leslie who keeps him busy in winter months in California. Interesting fact: Jeff is an amateur apiarist.
